Welcome to Balance on the Ridge!
Thank you for stopping by my blog. I’m not here to offer a magic formula, a secret code, or even a life hack that will make balancing a full-time career and raising kids any easier. What I do promise is honesty and, hopefully, a sense of community.
As moms of this generation, we’re blessed with the opportunity to pursue fulfilling careers while also being amazing parents to our little humans. But let’s be real—it’s exhausting. It’s frustrating. And, for many of us, it’s accompanied by a persistent feeling that we’re falling behind. My hope is that this blog becomes a space where you can find solidarity, a supportive community, and maybe even a spark of inspiration when you need it most.
A little bit about me: I live in beautiful Northern Vermont and work full-time as an educator at a high school. My husband, who also works full-time, and I are parents to two wonderful boys, ages 11 and 7. We’re a solidly middle-class family, grounded in the values of hard work and caring for others. Like many of you, we’re navigating the ups and downs of modern family life—from managing screen time to figuring out how to squeeze 25 hours into a 24-hour day. I’m not here to pretend I have all the answers. I’m here to share what I’ve learned and to learn from others.
So, what’s in a name? We recently moved to a rural home on 15 acres and discovered an incredible ridge behind our property. It seemed like a fitting metaphor for the balancing act we’re all trying to master—thus, “Balance on the Ridge” was born. And no, I don’t have a guide for how to move into a new home with ease. Our move was anything but smooth. We closed on a Friday, moved on Saturday, and were completely fried by Sunday. Thankfully, it was a three-day weekend, but by Tuesday, I was back at work, still unpacking boxes and trying to find ironed clothes for myself and my kids. I still can’t find my salt shaker.
Why this blog? I felt compelled to create it because there aren’t enough spaces dedicated to moms who are striving to balance careers and families. While I deeply respect the “Tradwife” lifestyle, many of us want—and need—to work. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to the challenges we face, but there is immense value in sharing our experiences and supporting one another.
If that resonates with you, I’d love for you to join this community. Sign up for updates, and together, we’ll tackle the daily dilemmas of working motherhood. Some of us may have already solved a few of the challenges you’re facing, and others might benefit from the solutions you’ve discovered. Welcome to Balance on the Ridge—let’s find our balance together!
